Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Finger Dictionary need camera access?

The camera is used to detect your finger position and recognize text in the real world. No photos or video are ever saved or transmitted — all processing happens on your device.

Which iOS version do I need?

Finger Dictionary requires iOS 18.0 or later.

Which languages are supported?

Finger Dictionary can translate English into any one of 19 target languages: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Arabic, Thai, Turkish, Hindi, Polish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Ukrainian. You can switch between them at any time from the language picker.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. Download the language pack once and translations work entirely offline. The app makes no network requests beyond the initial language pack download managed by Apple.

How do I change the target language?

Tap the language label below the title (e.g. "English → 中文") to open the language picker and select a different target language.

The app says it can't detect my finger. What should I do?

Make sure your index finger is clearly visible to the camera and that you're pointing at printed or displayed text. Good lighting and a steady hand help with accuracy.

Does Finger Dictionary collect any personal data?

No. Finger Dictionary does not collect, store, or share any personal data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
